National Chocolate Day!

Monday, October 28th is National Chocolate Day. With Halloween just a few days away, before you get your fill of Snickers, Kit Kats and Three Musketeers, try a few of Rochester’s local chocolates: Stever’s, Hedonist and Chocolate & Vines!

Stever’s Candy

Stever’s has been Rochester’s local homemade candy shop since 1946 and is located right on Park Ave (at the corner of Vassar). You can tell these freshly made chocolates and candies are made from quality ingredients just by taking a look at all the wonderful goodies they have in their store. Stever’s has such a great variety of chocolate to choose from. With each season and holiday they have an entire collection of new shapes and flavors to choose from. My favorite year round item is their assorted chocolate boxes. What Stever’s does which I find so unique is they have five different Assorted Boxes to choose from. Most mixed boxes of chocolates you see have a little bit of everything, from your solid milk or dark chocolate, caramels, coconut, chewy nougat, creams and jellies, so there’s ones you love and ones you hate. But with Stever’s Assorted Boxed varieties you can get just milk chocolate if you don’t like dark or just a mix of crispy & chewy centers if you don’t like jelly filled. Or you can of course make your own assortment if you know exactly what you want.

Hedonist Artisan Chocolates

hedonist.emily_penroseHedonist is located on South Ave in the South Wedge of Rochester. Hedonist specializes in Truffles and other chocolate treats. I first experienced Hedonist Chocolates at a chocolate and beer pairing event at Rohrbach’s Railroad Street Brewhouse. The pairings were amazing and this is where I first fell in love with their salted caramels. They-Are-Amazing. I decided to stop by the shop and discovered their Salted Caramel Ice Cream (Mind Blown!). But because this post is about chocolate and not about caramel or ice cream let me tell you about the Maple Bacon Truffles that I got as toppings. Maple-Bacon-Truffles, ya, they were amazing. If you are interested in a trying some of these out yourself, tonight (Friday, October 25th) Hedonist is hosting a free chocolate tasting event at their location on South Ave from 5 to 8 PM. They are featuring their “Spellbound Truffles”, so get a jump start on national chocolate day and Halloween by heading down to check this out!

Chocolate & Vines

chocolatevine.emily_penroseOne of my favorite places in Rochester is Chocolate & Vines, a chocolate and wine bar located at 757 University Ave on the ARTWalk in Rochester’s Neighborhood of the Arts. These guys do Wine and Beer and the two things that go best with them, cheese and chocolate. This is a great spot to head for a date night with a loved one or friend. Their wine and beer list is sure to please everyone and their staff is very knowledgeable about what items pair well together so you can experience the magic of a perfect food pairing. I will definitely be celebrating National Chocolate Day here on Monday night. To celebrate the holiday Chocolate & Vines is offering a complimentary truffle with your glass of wine or beer purchase. Yes Please! And after looking at their menu it looks like they have a few new seasonal truffles that I can’t wait to try out. Hope to see ya there!
